The Last Book that I Read!

The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials Trilogy #1) The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials Trilogy #2) The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials Trilogy #3)
The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials Trilogy #1)
The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials Trilogy #2)
The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials Trilogy #3)

This is a fabulous series by Phillip Pullman; author of I Was A Rat!
The first book, The Golden Compass,
follows the adventures of Lyra as she searches for her friend Roger and learns about her parents and of the mysterious substance called "dust."
The second book, The Subtle Knife, introduces Lyra to Will. Will is not from Lyra's world at all; but from our own. Will and Lyra travel to a mysterious new world in search of Will's father and more news of "dust."
The final book in the trilogy, The Amber Spyglass, brings all of the fascinating characters from both previous books together. This book brings everyone together for the culminating battle that has been growing for centuries. This book reminds me of The Last Battle, by C.S.Lewis. Fans of his Chronicles of Narnia series will see similarities.

Guides to Children's Lit on the Web
There are a lot of excellent guides to literature on the Internet.   Kay Vondergrift and the Children's Literature Web Guide are two of the best!

Authors and Illustrators
There are a lot of great web sites out there.  Here are just a few of the official (and not-so official) sites of some great Children's and Young Adult authors and illustrators.

Favorite Authors and Illustrators On the Internet
Visit some of my personal favorite authors and illustrators of children's and YA literature on the web. Most sites listed are the Author or Illustrator's own site. In some cases the publishing house is the official site.
Visit the Children's Literature Corkboard and share some of your favorites!

Online Magazines
Several magazines and journals, such as the Horn Book, dedicated to children's literature can now be found on the Internet.  These provide excellent sources for reviews and ideas.

Children's Book Awards
There are several different awards in the world of children's literature. Some of the more well known include the The Newbery Medal and the The Caldecott Medal. Some are less well known like the Young Reader's Choice Award.

Young Adult Literature
These sites are dedicated to young adult literature.  Some information and websites for adult fiction are included as well.
